Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions apply when you use the Retired Sets buying service to submit, send, or sell LEGO® sets to us.
By submitting an offer, accepting a valuation, using one of our postage labels or QR codes, or sending items to us, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.
1. About Our Buying Service
Retired Sets offers a buying service for new, sealed LEGO sets.
We provide indicative offers based on the information you submit, including set number, box condition, current market data, and any other relevant details. All offers are subject to inspection once the item has been received by us.
We reserve the right to amend, reduce, reject, or cancel an offer if the item received does not match the information provided during submission.
2. We Only Buy Brand New, Sealed Sets
We only accept brand new, sealed LEGO sets.
We do not buy used, opened, incomplete, built, resealed, damaged, counterfeit, or non-genuine LEGO sets.
By sending an item to us, you confirm that:
- the set is brand new and sealed
- the item is genuine LEGO
- you are the legal owner of the item
- you have the right to sell the item
- the item matches the set number, condition, and details provided when the offer was submitted.
If you send us a used, opened, incomplete, resealed, counterfeit, or otherwise unacceptable item, we will not be required to buy it.
3. Used, Opened or Unacceptable Items
If we receive an item that we do not accept, including but not limited to a used, opened, incomplete, resealed, counterfeit, or non-genuine set, we may reject the item.
Where an item is rejected, you will be responsible for paying the cost of return delivery if you would like the item sent back to you.
We will contact you using the details provided during your submission. If you do not respond, or if return postage is not paid within a reasonable period, we reserve the right to dispose of, recycle, donate, or otherwise deal with the item as we consider appropriate.
No payment will be made for rejected items.
4. Condition and Inspection
All items are inspected by our team once received.
The offer shown on the website is based on the information you provide. Final payment is subject to the item passing our inspection.
We may reduce or withdraw an offer if:
- the box condition is worse than stated
- the seals are broken, damaged, tampered with, or missing
- the item appears to have been opened or resealed
- the set is damaged in transit
- the set number does not match the submission
- the item is not genuine LEGO
- the item does not meet our buying criteria.
If we amend an offer after inspection, we may contact you to confirm whether you wish to accept the revised amount.
5. Postage, Delivery and Royal Mail
Where we provide a Royal Mail postage label or QR code, this is supplied for you to send your item to us.
You are responsible for packing your items safely and securely so that they are protected during transit. Please use suitable outer packaging and padding.
Although Royal Mail delivery may include tracking and/or insurance, Retired Sets is not responsible for parcels while they are in transit to us.
Until the parcel has been successfully delivered to us, any loss, delay, damage, failed delivery, missing parcel, tracking issue, or delivery dispute is the responsibility of Royal Mail and must be raised with Royal Mail directly.
We are not liable for items that are lost, damaged, delayed, or misdelivered before they arrive with us.
6. Packaging Responsibility
You are responsible for ensuring your item is properly packaged.
We are not responsible for damage caused by poor or insufficient packaging, including but not limited to:
- items sent in bags or loose wrapping
- boxes with insufficient padding
- items moving around inside the parcel
- crushed or damaged LEGO boxes caused by poor packing
- labels or QR codes being obscured, missing, damaged, or incorrectly attached.
If an item arrives damaged, we may reduce or withdraw the offer.
7. Multiple Items and QR Codes
You may receive more than one QR code or label. This does not always mean each item must be sent separately.
If multiple items can be safely packed in one parcel, you may use one suitable box and one QR code. If you use multiple parcels, each parcel must have the correct label or QR code attached.
You are responsible for ensuring all items are packed safely and sent correctly.
8. Payment
Payment will only be made after we have received and inspected your items.
We aim to process payments promptly once inspection is complete, but payment times may vary depending on volume, bank processing times, weekends, bank holidays, or any issues with the submission.
Payment will be made using the payment details you provide. You are responsible for ensuring your bank details are accurate.
We are not responsible for delays or failed payments caused by incorrect bank details or information supplied by you.
9. Offer Validity
Offers are based on market conditions at the time they are generated.
We may set a time limit for you to post your items. If items are sent after this period, we reserve the right to amend or withdraw the offer.
Market values can change, and we are not required to honour an expired offer.
10. Ownership of Items
Ownership of an accepted item passes to Retired Sets once:
- the item has been received
- the item has passed inspection
- the final offer has been accepted, where applicable
- payment has been made.
Rejected items remain your responsibility until they are returned, collected, disposed of, or otherwise resolved.
11. False, Misleading or Fraudulent Submissions
We reserve the right to reject any submission that we believe is false, misleading, fraudulent, suspicious, or made in bad faith.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- incorrect set numbers
- incorrect condition information
- attempts to sell used items as sealed
- counterfeit goods
- stolen goods
- repeated misuse of postage labels or QR codes.
We may cancel offers, refuse future submissions, withhold payment, or report suspicious activity where appropriate.
12. Returns of Rejected Items
If we reject an item and you wish to have it returned, you must pay the return delivery cost.
We are not responsible for return postage costs where the item was rejected because it did not meet our buying criteria.
Return delivery will only be arranged once the required postage cost has been paid.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Retired Sets will not be liable for:
- loss or damage during delivery to us
- delays caused by Royal Mail or any third-party courier
- damage caused by poor packaging
- incorrect information provided by you
- loss of profit, loss of value, or indirect losses
- any issue arising from items that do not meet our buying criteria.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
